Thank you for your support of Concur’s Volunteer Rebuild with Rebuilding Together Seattle! Your contributions will be used to cover related program costs for the day of the build, including project materials, tools, and logistics. Your generosity ensures a family like Ernesto’s finally has a safe and healthy home again.

Bio: Ernesto and his family live in the Hillman City neighborhood of Southeast Seattle. Ernesto has been in a wheelchair for some time due to post-polio effects, and has been without a ramp. To enter or exit his home he had to ask relatives to come over to carry him and his wheelchair up and down the stairs. His wife, Perpetua, recently suffered a torn ACL after trying to catch a falling patient at her job as a nurse, so she has been unable to help Ernesto around the home. Their house also had a number of other hazards that caused them to worry about the safety of their daughter with special needs.

The RTS Impact: On Spring Rebuilding Day 2014, 40 volunteers updated Ernesto’s home to make it functional for him and his family again. Volunteers completely rebuilt their kitchen, repaired extensive ceiling damage caused by roof leaks, removed graffiti from their front fence and rebuilt their front steps. Most importantly the volunteers built a very beautiful ramp that now takes Ernesto from his front door to his driveway, making doctor’s appointments much easier now. Ernesto and his family are so happy to have received help and to finally have the ramp they have desperately needed.

Thank you again for your generous support. Keep an eye out for stories from the Concur build on May 22!
