Bio: Jack grew up in Minnesota and made his way to the Seattle area after his service in the Navy during the Korean War. Jack eventually settled in Ballard and is immensely proud of his historic Ballard home, built in 1909. Jack, you could say, is a ‘jack of all trades’, having been a teacher, a poet, a historian, and even a car dealership owner during his well-lived life. Now, Jack lives alone and has become unable to keep up with his aging home, both physically and financially.
The Rebuilding Together Seattle Impact: On Spring Rebuilding Day 2014, roughly 80 volunteers helped to give Jack the home he deserves. They repaired his roof leak, built a new front porch, put on a fresh coat of paint inside, made his kitchen functional again, and beautified his yard so he could enjoy warm summer days. They also surprised Jack with a framed picture of his home from when it was built in 1909. As he was touring his ‘new’ home, Jack said “What you did for me today, it is a good thing. It is so special. You have changed me forever.”
